Stuart Wilson's Book Recommendations
We couldn’t chat with the author of The 113th Assistant Librarian without asking for his favourite book recommendations. From adventurous witches to magical pigs, here are Stuart's top picks to add to your reading list…
1. The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books are wonderful (starting with The Wee Free Men). Set in the fantastical Discworld, they concern a young witch who is tough, intelligent and resourceful. Even better, once you've read those, Pratchett's other 35+ adult Discworld novels will be ready and waiting.
2. The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney
I also love The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney (AKA the Spook's books). They concern young Thomas Ward, seventh son of a seventh son, an apprentice Spook who must deal with witches, ghouls and ghosts in his local County.
3. The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
Finally, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander were a huge influence on me growing up. Starting with The Book of Three, they follow the adventures of young Taran, Assistant Pig-Keeper, who discovers his pig has the power of clairvoyance.
What Will You Read Next?
A huge thanks to Stuart for sharing his favourite reads with us! Have you read any of these? Maybe they’ll be the next adventure on your bookshelf.
