✨ "Jacqueline Harvey is one of my favourite authors from Alice Miranda days. The Girl and the Ghost is her new novel and is a completely new genre that I am reading. It is a captivating mix of historical fiction and mystery, unfolding in France. It’s about a 13 year old girl named Josephine Eloise Thomas who has recently moved to the Chateau Margaux in south-west France, as her family has decided to renovate the ancient rundown building. Exploration of the chateau leads to her discovery of a teenage ghost who once was a prince. The pair uncover many secrets, but together, can they solve the greatest mystery of all?

I found this book to be a truly delightful read. The writing style was humorous, and captivating. Even though the story is told in third person, Josephine’s feelings are strongly conveyed. The characters were beautifully developed and their personalities were woven through the story, like Louis’ stubbornness and Gabriel’s daringness. The plotline was unpredictable, full of twists and there were unexpected layers to the mystery. There were many key themes highlighted throughout the novel, primarily friendship. The message of friendship was quite clearly portrayed in Josephine’s growing affection for both Louis and Gabriel, and the letters and emails woven into the text, showing her bond with her best friend.

I would recommend this delightful book to tweens and early teens who enjoy mystery, French history, and/or any of Jacqueline Harvey’s other books.

I have great expectations for the second novel in the series: The Girl and the Ghost: Family Secrets!" – Saavni N

"I absolutely love this book, I have been looking for a new series to read, and this was exactly what I was looking for. My eyes were locked on every page, (a page-turner for sure). I love some good romance as well, (so right up my alley) I cannot wait for the next book, I know it will be just as good, (or better!)." – Chanel R

✨ "The Girl and the Ghost is a novel about an Australian family moving to a chateau in France. It's a mystery story because things that happen are only explained later in the story.

I enjoyed it because I learned a lot more about the history of France and the French Revolution - as well as some French words.

My favourite character was Louis, the ghost prince, because he seemed to know a lot of things from his time (the 17th century), but not so many things about the 21st century.

I rate it 4.6/5 stars because it was really intriguing and interesting." – Arthur J
